Chancellor George Osborne today (Wednesday 9 December) announced a £50-million fund to help families and businesses in Cumbria, Lancashire and other flood-affected areas get back on their feet.

Families can claim up to £5,000 each and businesses will also get funding to recover from the devastating flooding caused by Storm Desmond.

The support is to not only deal with damage caused by the severe weather, but to also provide protection against future flooding.

The government is currently assessing damage to regional infrastructure, including flood defences and roads, before rebuilding begins.

The Cumbria Growth Hub is currently offering free advice and support for businesses, and other local organisations are helping out, such as FusionGo with free temporary desk space and resources.
